The advent of internet has brought controversial issues of privacy in networked computers. It has facilitated getting access to personal information or computer activities, thereby creating privacy problems.
The advocates of networked computers say that it is a great tool to the social control, as well as monitoring for clues to illegal activity. It can investigate and prevent potential criminal activities.
On the other hand, widespread of networks has led to political and ethical problems. The excessive exposure of personal information and activities may infringe on personal rights and freedom. In addition, personal losses and damages may be caused by the misuse of computer hackers or through unsecured information posted on social network services. This could be prevented by tightening the surveillance of networks; however this in turn will cause political issues mentioned earlier.
